I ran my first 5K..and info leading up to that
I've been training now for 4 weeks. Jodi and I are training using the Couch to 5k training program and it is going well. We thought we'd die after week 1 but somehow we are pushing through. The last two weeks though we've both been sick and recovering from that. I did manage to run last Wednesday with Jodi for about half a mile and then a second half mile by myself and then again Thursday morning I ran/walked at the gym a total of two miles in 29:43 the first mile I ran (after my 1 minute warm up) in 12:43. I felt good about that.
but then that same day I went and helped Beth in Mitchell with Kelsey's 5th Birthday - she had about 8 other girls over including her own kids and we were running after then and holding the baby, etc all day - needless tosday I was a little sore on Friday.
Saturday, June 15, 2008; Marathon, IA, 5K race - still not 100% but pretty good. I didn't stretch enough before or after - so I'm assuming it is why I'm sore. Sore in my butt cheeks and my upper legs and the calf/front leg of my right foot - it is always kind of tight because I pulled my tendon in that leg earlier this year. I got 77th out of 104 people and my time was 37:37.25. The fastest man was done in 16:05 and the fastest gal was 21:56. So I think I did alright for my first 5k. I ran about a mile maybe a little over when I decided to talk a little breather and walk. and then I'd run for a while and walk for a little bit, just to keep me going. It was nice to think that in 5 more weeks I'll be able to run the whole thing with hopefully no stopping. I'm really looking forward to that.
Alan got 49th out of 62 people in the half marathon and his time was 2:32:46.04 so he did very well too, only 2 minutes off his mark - he was thinking that he'd be done in 2.5 hours. He got a little burnt and a little chaffing, but he said he felt ok. At lunch the poor guy had a throbbing head, maybe too much sun. And he had it the rest of the day. We both seemed to walk like ducks because of our tight leg muscles - plus had to drive the 3 hours to get back home. I felt old when I got home. But two days later, I'm feeling much better, but I could definitely use a massage!
